Cheshire Men’s over 55s win the Inter-counties title

National titles appear to be like busses; only two weeks after the Cheshire ladies won theirs, the Cheshire over 55 men achieved the same feat! After winning their first weekend at Crosby, they went into the finals as the second-ranked team. Victories in their two Saturday matches took them into Sunday’s final game against top-ranked Surrey. Wins at strings 3, 4 and 5 ensured Cheshire took the 55s title for the first time in many years.

The squad consisted of the following players:

  • Paul Kettle (captain) - Tattenhall

  • Karl Hardy - Duffield

  • Peter Astbury - Warrington

  • Dave Kelly - Knutsford

  • Dave Williams - Woolston

  • Peter Kelly - Warrington

  • Ben Perry - Warrington

  • Chris Lee - Heswall

Team captain Paul Kettle had this to say:

“This weekend, the Cheshire O55 squash team showcased exceptional teamwork and dedication, culminating in their victory at the National O55 Inter Counties squash tournament. Facing tough competition from Lancashire, Yorkshire, Merseyside, Avon, Middlesex, and Surrey, Cheshire persevered through challenging matches to emerge triumphant in the final against a strong Surrey team with a 3-2 win. Congratulations to the Cheshire team for their well-deserved victory and for exemplifying the true spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork”.
